About Us

                                                     MISSION STATEMENT

Our Mission is to bring together a Muli Cultural, Multi ethnic performance arts Group that fosters collaborations between Businesses, Institutions and Community residents in culturally underserved communities to help strengthen, coordinate and give voice to the needs of the total community. Using younger and older Artists we will present the readings of plays, poems, essays and other literary writings as well as screenings of independent films from our local artist base in the community. Providing learning opportunities and experience for developing the skills of  performers preparing them to survive in their chosen artistic professions.

                          Emmitt Thrower

Emmitt is a Producer, Writer, Director and Actor. He is Founder and President of Wabi Sabi Productions Inc The Sponsor of River View Players.

He has performed in films such as Boomerang with Eddie Murphy, TV such as Law and Order, Independent films such as Matty Rich's "Straight Out of Brooklyn", Commercials and Print work with the NAACP.  He has performed on stage, on and off Broadway with Bernadette Stanis of "Good Times",  also in other roles such as Malcolm X for which he was nominated for an "Audelco Award" for Excellence in Black Theater.

He is skilled in portraying Black Leaders and Icons such as Jackie Robinson, Satchel paige, Patrice Lumumba (In NY and Martinique),  Marat  (in Marat Sade on 42nd Street), Richard Pryor  (42nd Street) , Paul Robeson (In Laurence Holders RED CHANNELS), Jessie Jackson (In Laurence Holders "F"), Miles Davis (One Man Show at La Mamas), Muhammad Ali (43rd Street) to name a few. In 2005 he formed his  Not For Profit company Wabi Sabi Productions Inc.

He has written and produced a Musical about Hurricane Katrina entitled "Katrina:A Whole Lotta Water", A Musical about the late Barry White's Life entitled "Barry White: Guided By Destiny", A Multimedia play and Video about Child Abuse. A Play about Women in Prison and Mental Illness, One Woman shows include The Josephine Baker story, Ida B. Wells story and more.

He is the original and current Chairman of the "Otto Awards For Political Theater". A decorated retired NYC Police Officer. A recipient of the "Independent Spirit Award" in Culture. Received the "Black Genius Award" for his body of work from Titus Walker and The Ujamma Black Theater. He is a member of Actors Equity. He is a Bronx Resident, married with three Sons.
